The production of braids go back thousands of years and was an important craft, especially in the middle ages. They have been made in many different ways, tablet woven being just one example, where geometric patterns were the most common. Other methods included fingerlooped, plaited and tabby woven. Braid could be made from silk, linen or wool and the most desirable might have metal thread. Our braids are currently costume braids best used to achieve a desired look rather than for historical accuracy.
